  • Environment, health and safety

Avantor® has a steadfast dedication to the safety of our communities, our colleagues and the environment. As a global manufacturer, we are committed to complying with all environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements in every region in which we operate, and acting as “good neighbors” in all of our communities. Safety is a key element of our Mission, Vision and Core Principles.

Our cross-functional approach to EHS involves EHS professionals, engineers, experts in Six Sigma and Lean Operations, and others who proactively work to identify potential risks and implement solutions to prevent accidents or environmental impacts before they occur. A robust auditing program in place at all of our global facilities ensures that we are able to measure our performance to drive a culture of continuous improvement.

    EHS areas of focus

    • Personal Safety: We have a robust program in place to protect the health and safety of the individuals in our facilities, including customers, employees and other visitors. Personal safety includes safe working conditions and work processes, the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and similar initiatives.
    • Process Safety: Our comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) program is focused on ensuring that our facilities are designed, operated and maintained safely. The goal is to protect our employees, neighbors, communities and the environment at all times.

    EHS core principles

    • “The Goal Is Zero.” Zero significant environmental incidents and zero injuries are our targets at all times
    • We measure, and rigorously track and document, EHS targets and improvement objectives
    • Our minimum operating standard is to meet all regulatory requirements and comply with other requirements to which the organization subscribes
    • Employees are encouraged to explore new ways to improve performance, proactively conserve resources, prevent pollution and enhance safety conditions
    • Constant training of all employees who are personally responsible to follow procedures and report any instances where EHS standards were compromised is essential to our business success
    • We maintain open and timely communication about all EHS developments with employees, local communities, customers, distributors, suppliers and regulatory authorities
    • We encourage and assist our suppliers, contractors and customers to use good practices to help ensure exceptional product stewardship and sustained EHS policies for the common good of our industry
